Hi, I have a new Fritzbox 5490 and will use IPv4-subnet and found a link how to install this. https://www.xs4all.nl/service/diensten/internet/installeren/modem-instellen/ipv4-subnet-instellen-op-de-fritzbox.htm From xs4all I become 8 ip xxx.xxx.xxx.185/29 xxx.xxx.xxx.184 xxx.xxx.xxx.185 xxx.xxx.xxx.186 etc What is the difference between xxx.xxx.185/29 and xxx.xxx.xxx.185 ? Is it correct to fill prefix with xxx.xxx.xxx.184 and what should I use by the network mask. (Which value is correct) 255.255.255.??? My wan ip is now xxx.xxx.63.64 , what's happening with this ip address? Is it still working as now when I add the public ipv4-subnet After the fritzbox I have installed an edge router and on the fritzbox 192.168.1.1 exposed host to my edge router 192.168.1.2 On the edge router, I have configured Firewall policies and Nat so port forwarding 80 and 443 works fine now I will add a new server with same 443 port open so I need an extra wan ip to this machine. Wim Your existing Wan IP will remain unchanged and your port forwards will continue to work so that is not a problem. The first IP is normally the network address and shall not be used (well there are tricks to be able to use it, but they are...somewhat dirty. So you configure x.y.z.185 as prefix with as netmask (here you get the /29), with: # ipcalc 80.127.123.185/29 Address: 80.127.123.185 Network: 80.127.123.184/29 Netmask: 255.255.255.248 = 29 Broadcast: 80.127.123.191 Address space: Internet Address class: Class A HostMin: 80.127.123.185 HostMax: 80.127.123.190 Hosts/Net: 6 So /29 translates to a netmask of 255.255.255.248, usable addresses .185 - .190 (where one is allocated to the router, .185 if you use that as prefix) This was the easy part. The problems come when you want to route that /29 to the edgerouter: the stupid Fritz simply puts the addresses on the lan network. When I tried to configure port forwarding it did not accept the forwards for the extra addresses as it expected each IP-address to have an own MAC address. I configured my edgerouter to terminate PPOE with the modem configured according to http://www.pe1pzu.nl/fb7581bridge/. I now have full control over my routing. The edgrouter does the routing, the fritz ONLY acts as modem. All other stuff like DHCP, DECT, WIFI cannot be used., as noted on that page I route my /29 from the edgerouter to my pfsense firewall that uses the first usable address (.185 in your case) on a DMZ network where my public servers (all using an address from my /29) are located. You could also define a separate interface on the edgerouter with the .185/29 address to connect to the DMZ |

Thanks for your info. I use dect (2 numbers) and TV (2) and my Fritxbox is connected to the internet with Fiber. I can remove the Fritzbox and add edgerouter with SFP or place a vlan switch before both. Or is there a better way |

Or is there a better way For fiber connecting directly (or through a media converter) to the edgerouter is indeed the way to go.Then just connect the Fritz downstream from the edgerouter, |
